I have been a trance dj for over 9 years now, but several years ago I abandoned my vinyl collection in favour of playing 100% unreleased tracks from DAT. I feel that this way enables me to be on the cutting edge of psychedelic trance music, and also a chance to test drive the latest signings to our label. Although DAT players are not equipped with pitch as on Technics turntables, I have devised a system based around the BPM which allows beat mixing as opposed to just playing one track after another. In the last years I have collected several hundred hours of unreleased music on DAT, and every week I receive new tracks from all over the world. I generally prefer playing night time sets as my music is mostly in the 140 - 150 bpm range and I like powerful sounds and sweeping melodies. If it doesn't give me goose bumps when I play it, it isnt in my set =)
I have now moved over to spinning with cds using the Pioneer Dj - 500 system, still using only unreleased music of course, but then burned onto cds for more mixability and a pitch control !
